Meet the Senior Pastor and First Family

Dr. Emory Berry, Jr. is often described as innovative, daring, astute, compassionate, humble and inspiring. However, Pastor Berry describes himself as “a child of God seeking to do the Lord’s will, the Lord’s way”. Reared in both Miami and Miramar, Florida, Pastor Berry truly believes God has blessed him to be
a blessing to others. His life provides evidence that he is always searching for ways to use his education, experience, and exposure to benefit the lives of those around him.

Dr. Berry completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. A graduate of Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, Dr. Berry completed his Doctorate of Ministry degree at Virginia Union University’s Samuel D. Proctor School of Theology in Richmond Virginia. He has also completed post-graduate studies and received leadership certifications from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey, Howard University in Washington, DC, Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Auburn Theological Seminary in New York, New York, and the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative in Miami, Florida.

 

Dr. Berry served on the Board of Directors for the Baptist General Convention of Virginia and is the past-Chairman of the Board for the Virginia Alliance Against Mass Incarceration. He served on the Board of Directors for the Richmond Christian Leadership Institute and the Advisory Board for the Church Hill Academy for at-risk high school students.

In August 2016, Pastor Berry was called to be the 4th Senior Pastor of Greenforest Community Church in Decatur, Georgia.   Prior to this assignment, Rev. Berry served as the pastor of Fourth Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. During his leadership, the church grew numerically, spiritually, and programmatically.   Rev. Berry is the past Director of Christian Education at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Miami, Florida and he has also served as the Youth & Young Adult Pastor at First Saint Paul AME Church in Lithonia, Georgia. Throughout his ministry, Pastor Berry has maintained a deep passion for leadership development, inter-generational ministry, and community empowerment.
 
Widely recognized by several organizations, newspapers, and TV stations for his leadership and advocacy, Dr. Berry is the proud author of the book
“Marriage That Matters”   which blesses people of all ages and all walks of life. As a prolific preacher, facilitator, and teacher, Dr. Berry uses his insights and humor to inspire people from all backgrounds.
