The visionary and new Senior Pastor of the Greenforest Community Baptist Church is Reverend Dennis W. Mitchell, born in San Francisco and reared in El Cerrito, California. Reverend Mitchell was ordained into the Gospel Ministry in 1991 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in San Jose, California.
For nearly twenty years, Reverend Mitchell has remained steadfast in his pursuit of building the kingdom of God through ministerial service. He has served as a Christian Education Director at the "Exciting" Singing Hills Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas; a Sunday School Growth consultant with the Baptist General Convention of Texas; and a Black Church Extension associate director with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Reverend Mitchell's pastoral experiences include serving as pastor of the Central Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama; executive pastor of Greenforest Community Baptist Church and most recently interim pastor of Greenforest.
Reverend Mitchell was educated in the Richmond, California public school system, and earned his B.S. degree in Economics from Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Seminary, Ft. Worth, Texas and worked on a MBA at the University of Washington - Seattle. In 2007, Reverend Mitchell began pursuing a doctorate of Ministry Degree at The Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Reverend Mitchell has been a member of Greenforest since 1994, where he has served as Shepherd of the Millennium Fulfillment Hour Class and Master Teacher of all adult Fulfillment Hour Shepherds. Reverend Mitchell's most recent assignment was with the Southern Baptist Convention where he served as Senior Division Director of the North American Mission Board, Church Planting Group; where his primary responsibilities was leading the development of a national strategy for assisting Baptist state conventions, associations and local churches to plant new, healthy, reproducing congregations across the Continental U.S., all U.S. held territories and Canada.
Prior to accepting the call into ministry, Reverend Mitchell had a successful career in banking, holding positions ranging from a local Branch Manager and Regional Sales Manager with Wells Fargo Bank to a Vice President of First Interstate Bank both located in San Francisco, California.
Reverend Mitchell's primary spiritual gifts are encouragement, administration and teaching. His life memory verse is John 9:4 - "I must do the work of Him while it is day, for when night cometh, no man can work". He is very passionate about African American churches accepting the mantel of leadership in modeling the fulfillment of the Acts 1:8 mission mandate.
Rev. Mitchell is married to Pam (Griffin), a native of Dallas, Texas and a Cobb County Public School Teacher. They are the proud parents of 3 daughters - Shayna (teacher and graduate of Hampton University); Erin (graduate of Spellman and Georgetown Law School, practicing attorney in Washington, D.C.) and Andrea (third year student at Georgia State University).
